-Starting university soon and picked a course that I thought I wanted to do, but I change my mind so much, I just wondered around what age people actually decided what they definitely wanted to do in life in terms of earning a living/jobs?I've switched my career choices so many times as child, and most of the time they weren't even related fields. I've wanted to be an architect, vet, nuclear engineer, electrician, neurosurgeon, computer engineer. When I was 17 (last year) I finally decided to go with agronomy, and I'm starting college for it soon. The big thing is not to focus too much on how much money you'll make in that field. Although you should definitely check into how difficult it is to find a job with whatever you go for, you shouldn't think that having a highly in-demand degree and making a lot of money is more important than how much you like your job. It isn't. Remember, you will be doing this for many years, for many hours each day. If you aren't interested in your career, no amount of money is going to make up for the excruciating boredom you'd feel everyday. As long as you can live decently, you will be extremely satisfied for your whole life if you do what you love. I hate to use a cliche, but if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life.23, when I stumbled into my career by chance.
Most people either don't know or change their minds even after they've already headed off to university. I really do wonder if those who have answered before even becoming a teen if they have already started their careers, or they're just teens or in university still working towards what they think they wanted to do. We recently had a bring your child to work day - my coworker brought in his son. He made a point of asking everyone what they thought they wanted to do when they went off to university - only one out of the 12 people he asked on our team knew what they wanted to do and stuck with it to this day. The rest of us had vague ideas and followed through, or completely changed our minds.
Find something that you enjoy that is an employable field and see where it takes you.
Those that are truly successful in life know exactly what they want to be in the early years or high school, or even middle school.
Careful with what you choose.
Some things are extremely fun to take - unfortunately those are the ones with very little demand, or even no demand, and very low pay.
Google: Degrees most in demand for the next decade.
Make sure you'll get a job when you get out.
The unemployment numbers are not telling the true story.
Unemployment could be as high as 19%. Worse for those that take fun degrees in the arts
Some people know what they want to do from childhood. Others have to think really hard about it. And a lot of people change their majors in college. It all just depends on the person. I figured out what I wanna do when I was 16. As of now im still pretty committed
I think it was around 15-ish. But that's a big 'ish' there. Don't think of it in terms of age, so long as you've got some kind of ambition, it doesn't matter when you make your mind up, or what that ambition is :)
At 8
At 9 years old i realized
