-I've had two interviews so far, one last Tuesday and the other was on the Wednesday, for Barnes and Noble. After the Wednesday interview I signed a release for a background check. Now that it's been almost 5 days should I continue to wait for a call a bit longer, call them, or do something else? I'm not even sure how long a background check takes to get back.Your best bet is to call their Personnel Department every two days and ask about the status of your employment, it shows initiative and willingness to work, also ask if the position you were applying for has been filled yet, if so ask if there are any other positions available.
You can also use this technique before you get an interview, 9 times out of 10 they will ask you to come in for an interview within the first 2 weeks :)How long it takes depends on what way they're doing it. By computer, a few short minutes. By paper & mail, it could take anywhere from a week to two weeks. You can call them back & ask how the process is coming along & tell them that you're interested in the job. It will give them the impression that you are serious about getting hired, which will be a plus in your favor.
You might want to wait for another week, if they dont call back in that time then you might want to look for another job.
