White collar family and going to collage but interested in a manual labor (blue collar) job?

-Everybody in my family has an office and job and has at least a masters degree and the expect the same from me. I'm in collage studying psychology at the moment and plan on going for a PHD. Occasionally the thought of getting a blue collar job has popped into my head. Can anybody tell me the pay difference between me going for my phd or if I were to drop out and go to trade school. Also please give me a short run down on your job, if it's blue or white and how much you like it. Thanks.you are waaaaaaay better off by sticking with what your doing.i've struggled most of my life at blue collar jobs, believe me they get old quick! the pay is usually horrible, its a mental challenge everyday going into work at some sh**hole place everyday and knowing that thats what you look foward to doing 40+ hours a week! its very depressing, thats why most people who work those jobs are alcoholics or druggies, because its wery hard to get up every morning and mentally do it for 30 years until you retire.First off,you didn't spell college correctly-so I doubt you are in college. Getting a PhD means 4 years as an undergradute-then 2 years in a Master's program. Then an ADDITIONAL 2 years to get a PhD.That's 8 years in college. Many people with Phd's can't even get a job in their chosen field. It doesn't matter what your family's education history is. The important thing is that you find something you want to do and enjoy doing and go for that. If that means being a doctor, then go for it. If that means being a car mechanic with no college-then go for that. You've only got one life to live. Do what will make you happiest and not what your family wants you to do. When they see you're happy doing something you enjoy they will understand and be happy for you. Follow your own heart and not anyone else's. Good luck
