Can someone expunge there record and still be able to be a nurse?

-My friend wants to be a nurse and we both go to college. He recently just started and I'm a nursing major and I didn't know if he can try to be a nurse even if he gets it expunge. He wanted to be a teacher at first but I know that even if you do expunge he can't. I just want to know if he has a chance to become a nurse when he gets his record expunge. If he gets it expunged at its federal it will still show up on a criminal back ground check, but only as "Federal Felony- Conviction set aside" or something to that effect. Odds are any HR person worth there salt will ask the nature of the offense and why its sealed. Now state felonies are completely different. IF the state the felony was committed in shares information freely then it will show up. If not, then it won't come up in the interview
